Emily Thompson- PMS, burnout, healing story.
I just finished the 12-week group program with Unique and to celebrate the final week, I just had my first ever PMS free cycle… I couldn’t believe it… I really couldn’t… but here I am living proof that it is possible. This opportunity to work with Unique was incredible, she is so supportive and fun to work with and she cares for her clients so much.
Coming into this program three months ago, I was feeling stuck in the depths of adrenal fatigue that had been caused by years of running on overdrive, particularly in my career. I had serious brain fog, a lack of motivation to do the things that I loved, and was, more often than not, waking up with joint pain that made it hard to get out of bed most mornings.. this opportunity with Unique came at a time when I had just experienced loss and was working through grief, which left me even more uncertain as to how to approach my health and wellbeing.
I think one of the biggest takeaways for me was the simplicity of eating well. I’ve always considered myself a ‘’healthy’’ person but I think the narrative of healthy was delivered to me in so many different ways growing up… being vegan, eating less, eating raw, focusing obsessively on exercise, intermittent fasting… juice cleanses?! When it comes down to it, feeding my body three nourishing meals a day with protein, veg, and of course, beans, and accompanying it with a mindful routine morning and night, reducing my stress wherever I can, and giving myself permission to rest and listen to my body has made me feel better than I think I probably ever have felt. I no longer have caffeine and sugar cravings everyday (of course I want an ice cream here and there…), I feel happier and more present with myself and my loved ones, and I have the CAPACITY to do the things I love to do but also the knowledge to know when to rest.
There were definitely moments over the 12-week program that I thought… is this really going to do anything for me? Am I just going to fall back into the same habits like reaching for caffeine and sugar to get me through a day or a difficult moment? But the reward of this beautiful feeling of energy and joy has become such a motivator to continue living life the beany way. Also, knowing that healing is not linear and acknowledging that sometimes a brownie is OK but sticking to the core of what makes me feel great is the sustainable way forward.
Thank you so so much, Unique. You are a legume legend! I know I will continue to work with you and refer you to so many people that are looking for a non-judgmental, affordable and (actually) effective way to tap into their highest selves through consuming nourishing whole foods.
